World Class Fishing
Fishing in Panama is some of the best in the world. In fact, the indigenous word Panama actually means abundance of fish. Lago Bay is located at the heart of the best fishing in Panama where many records have been set with yellow tuna, wahoo, red snapper and giant sea bass.
Just north of Lago Bay lies Panama's 'Tuna Coast' along the Azuero Peninsula. Here, the abundance of tuna reaches incredible size.
Cebaco Island also lies in the panorama of Lago Bay with several fishing rocks near both the north and south ends of the long island. Bring your snorkel and spear gun for spear fishing near the rocks. The white sand makes for excellent visibility.
Because the Coiba National Park is virtually not fished, the 500 square kilometer area acts as a hatchery for the really large sport fish. Along the coast line to the south of Lago Bay also has an incredible variety and quantity of quality sport fish such as: Wahoo, Dorado, Roosterfish, Cero Mackerel, Snook, Cubera, Colorado and Crimson Snapper, Corvina, Broomtail and Rockhind Grouper, Peruvian Amberjack, Almaco Jack, Jack Crevalle, Blue-Fin Trevally, African Pompano, Yellow fin and Big Eye Tuna.
On the south side of Coiba many competitions are geared toward Pacific Sailfish.
Lago Bay is positioned as one of the best launching sites for all of these locations.
